The Town Moor for a Saturday evening card in conditions that were a bit overcast after some light rain.
Seven races were the order of the day with the feature being the Class 2 Handicap over 7f.
Crowd wise it was a bit small but with many other events most namely the Tour De Yorkshire being on the people of Yorkshire were well catered for regarding live sport over the bank holiday weekend.
5.10 Park Hill Private Hospital Apprentice Handicap,Class 4,1m6f 132yds,4yo+ (0-85)
An eventful race as two horses,Mister Fizz and Sweetheart Abbey came down around the home turn, thankfully both horses and jockeys returned safely.
Sheriff Of Nawton under the highly regarded Josh Doyle took the honours, avoiding the carnage he travelled well and won easily in the end over a length and a quarter from the favourite Comedy King.
The winner made it his second win of the turf season having won here in March over 10f off a mark of 70,today he went in off 82 and is in good heart, Comedy King should have a race in him but being a gelding with Luca Cumani he could end up hurdling should he get sold.
5.45 Jock Murray Memorial Handicap,Class 4,1m6f 132yds ,4yo+ (0-85)
A change of tactics worked the oracle on Samtu as he made all under Paul Pickard and gave Brian Ellison another winner to supplement Balty Boys win at Newmarket which were two of a four timer today
Making all he stayed on well and going in off 71 he was only 2lb higher than his win at Southwell back in March, Runner up Wordiness tried to follow up his recent Newbury win but found the drop back in trip a bit to much, in third was Earls Quarter who is a little bit one paced on the flat.
6.15 betdaq.com £20 Free Bet & 3% Comm Maiden,Class 5,5f,2yo
All eyes were on the Richard Fahey trained Birchwood here and he got off to a winning start, despite being a bit green and not getting the best start he soon got the hang of things and ran on to get the better of Secret Ambition by 0.75 lengths.
He will come on a ton for this race and could well end up in something like the Woodcote at Epsom or the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot, he has plenty of speed about him.
Secret Ambition improved a lot for his recent run,he should find a maiden somewhere but just found one too good here.
6.45 Cash Out On The Betdaq+ App Handicap,Class 2,7f,3yo,(0-105)
A top notch event with plenty of improving 3yo in it.
Realtra,a filly who kept good company as a 2yo,running in races like the Lowther and the Redcar 2yo Trophy she clearly benefited from the winter break with a fine win here to give Richard Fahey and Tony Hamilton a quick double
Held up early doors she made good headway and ran on well to get the better of Misterioso by three parts of a length, Auspicion and Strong Chemistry were back in third and fourth.
A lot to like about Realtra here, connections will no doubt try to get some Black Type with her,she should find a bit more improvement.the trip was fine and she should get a mile in time.
Misterioso was much happier back on turf while the third and fourth will be better going up in trip
7.15 betdaq.com Serious About Horses Handicap,Class 3,6f,4yo+ (0-90)
Three on the bounce for the Ruth Carr trained Meshardal who rallied down the stands rail under James Sullivan, winning at Catterick and Thirsk off 70 and 74 he went in here off 78 and being in good heart there could still be more to offer before the handicapper gets a hold,Races like the Great St Wilfrid and the various Ayr Cups are no doubt running through Ruth Carr at the moment with regards to Meshardal
Love Island was the runner up,this was a bit of a shock as she normally needs a run first time out,she hasn’t won since 2013 and deserves to pick a race up this season, Tiger Jim ran a cracker in third and will be better back up to 7f/1m after this.
7.45 Betdaq 50% Comm Back First 3 Months Maiden,Class 5,6f,3-4yo
A professional performance from the Martyn Meade trained Scalzo, under Fergus Sweeney he ran out a nice winner and could have a fair future depending what mark he gets of the handicapper.
He finished 4.5 lengths ahead of 40-1 debutant Fooland whose jockey Nathan Alison mistook the winning post but kept his position, back in third was odds on favourite Spiriting who could never land a blow,he may be better going up in trip to 7f or 1m but at the moment he is a very expensive horse to follow.
8.15 Betdaq £200 Games Bonus Handicap,Class 5,6f110yds,3yo (0-75)
A very competitive heat with plenty of potential improving speedsters.
Hayley Turner’s only rode of the meeting proved to be a winning one as she steered the Richard Hannon trained filly Tohfa to victory on her handicap debut.
After a poor run on soft ground last time out at Pontefract she appreciated the quicker ground, coming to lead with 3f left she kept finding extra and just got the better of Secret Spirit by a neck with favourite Commodore 1.25 lengths behind them in third spot.
Tohfa was certainly at home on the quicker surface, winning off 74 she has plenty more to offer.
A nice evening of racing then, plenty of useful horses look set to come on from this meeting as the season goes on.
This Saturday coming its Swinton Hurdle Day at Haydock,a real mix of flat, hurdles and fences from 6f to 3m.
Until then Goodbye from me
